A technical fault at the airport's air traffic control meant all flights could arrive or depart from the hub.

Passenger services have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport after a substantial ATC system failure halted all operations.

All incoming and outgoing flights were suspended after an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.

Several flyers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.

Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays

A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

That said, ongoing issues are likely to persist for some time. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.

An airport representative had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be impacted.

"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.

Source of the Issue

The airport attributed the full ground stop to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Passengers are still being urged to check the status of their journey before traveling to the hub as residual delays are cleared.
