Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then discovered numerous other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police report preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
