The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team is likely building a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs that are viable with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
