It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
